We’re Beasts.

Who Wander.

And may or may not be lost.

Onto New Adventures in 2020

Chamonix treated us very well during December 2019. We were lucky enough to have good snow for early season and got in some great powder days. Spending such a long time in one place gives you the chance to observe the mountains at different times, different lights, different weather - what I like to call “small infinities” (as opposed to the “large infinities” of discovering the big wild world). It also gives you the chance to sit out bad weather days, or ski until lunch and then take a nap and read. A good life. We also had visitors: My parents and our close friends visited for a week each. Our friends came with their 7 month-old toddler, who, to our delight, started crawling literally in front of our eyes during the week in Chamonix. (Above Photo: The charming little Christmas tree with kinder chocolates in our AirBnB. I only got to eat one of the chocolates.)

After Chamonix, we spent a couple of weeks in Istanbul, seeing friends and family. My uncle was in town from Sydney and Corey’s sister, Bethany, her husband, Jonathan, and their globe-trotting 9 month-old, BOB, visited from Washington, DC. Unfortunately, the weather in Istanbul was at its nastiest - rain, wind, all gray - but we tried to make the most of it.

At the beginning of our year-off, Corey and I had agreed that we would spend January apart, doing our own things. We figured we might get a bit tired of each other. We haven’t - which is great, but the plan still holds. I have decided to go hiking in Patagonia, where it is summer at the moment, the days are long and sunny, and where the evenings are pleasantly cool. Corey has decided to go ice-climbing in the north of Scotland, where it is the depth of winter, with sleet, cold, darkness and 102 miles per hour winds. And did I mention that after that, he will go to Istanbul and have two of his wisdom teeth extracted?

Anyhow, all this brings me to Buenos Aires, where I currently am, to meet up with the guided tour I signed onto. I came a  day early and used it to visit the MALBA, which houses modern Latin American art, in addition to walking around town. I am sharing photos of a few of the works of art that caught my attention. I will leave it to Corey to share a photo of the Loch Ness monster.
