We’re Beasts.

Who Wander.

And may or may not be lost.

On The Road Again (Literally This Time)

After a couple of very pleasant - if also very fattening - weeks in Istanbul, we’ve relocated our wanderings to the United States. More specifically, we’ve relocated to a 16-foot Airstream Bambi, which is as cute its model name is saccharine.

Today we departed our temporary home in my nephew’s Washington DC basement (at just seven months old he’s quite the host) for the outskirts of Cleveland, Ohio. There’s nothing of particular interest to us in Cleveland, rather it’s en route to Chicago, our first “real” stop on this trip. Bonus points to Cleveland for giving Zeynep a new entry on her list of US states visited!

Towing the Airstream was blissfully uneventful. Other than a couple of moments getting sort of squished between tractor-trailers and construction barriers, you almost wouldn’t notice that you were pulling your home behind you. A testament to the bonkers torque of my sister and brother-in-law’s VW Touareg.

The KOA (Kampgrounds Of America… I know, I know) we’re staying at is huge and pleasantly well-maintained. Our little Airstream was quite the neighborhood attraction on the streets of DC, but much to our surprise we’re one of four here. Ours is also the smallest trailer in the park by at least 50%; our neighbors on both sides are towing trailers three times larger. Our friends in New York and London would be shocked by the surplus of space.

Tomorrow, on to Chicago… after we try to figure out how to dump the waste tank without needing a shower.
